Banco Español de San Fernando (1829-1856)
The Banco Español de San Fernando was founded on 9 July 1829 by Royal Warrant. It had a share capital of 60 million reales de vellón represented by 30,000 shares, although initially the Bank's actual share capital amounted to the 40 million reales received from the winding-up of the Banco Nacional de San Carlos. In 1847, the Banco Español de San Fernando merged with the Banco de Isabel II, founded in 1844. The Law of 28 January 1856 renamed the Banco Español de San Fernando as the Banco de España.
