Banco Español de San Fernando

Logo

Founded by Fernando VII in 1829, it was created in an attempt to solve the problem of the Government's debt to the Banco de San Carlos, some of whose shareholders switched to the new bank. It was born as a bank for the issuance of banknotes and one of its main objectives was to finance the Government.

This collection assembles records of the Banco Español de San Fernando, in addition to other documents produced by the institution throughout its existence. Among the latter, the Minutes to the General Meetings stand out as a source of first-hand information.

Archival documents relating to the Banco Español de San Fernando can be accessed within the Historical Archive collection at Banco Español de San Fernando (1829-1856) .
